Posted: August 30th, 2010

Artists and nature lovers unite.

The Friends of the Arboretum will host the 9th annual Birdhouse Display and Benefit Auction Sept. 3-12 at the University of Kentucky Arboretum. Admission is free.

Everyone is welcome to participate. Birdhouses may be ready-made, personalized or made from scratch. They will be displayed in the Arboretum’s enchanting gardens. All birdhouses should be rain and weather proof, ready to hang on a hook or have a flat base to mount on a plate with screws. As visitors stroll through the gardens, they will be able to bid on their favorite birdhouses. Ribbons will be awarded to “Best Children’s Birdhouse” (age 10 and under,) the “Fan Favorite Birdhouse” and the Pat Morris Creativity Award will be awarded to the “Most Creative Birdhouse.”

On September 12, Friends of the Arboretum will host a public reception and closing of the silent auction from 2-3:30 p.m. at the Dorothea Smith Oatts Visitor Center.

Various birdhouses will be autographed by Kentucky celebrities. Proceeds will go toward the Kentucky Children’s Garden, currently under construction.
