LAL Names Stephanie Pevec as Its New Executive Director
Posted: August 11th, 2010Lexington, KY – The Lexington Art League (LAL), Lexington’s oldest and largest visual arts organization, is pleased to announce the selection of Stephanie Pevec as its executive director. Pevec has served as LAL’s development director since 2008 and was one of 60 professionals considered in the nationwide search.
“We’re very excited to have Stephanie move into the executive director position,” said Paula Anderson, president of LAL’s Board of Directors. “Stephanie’s experience as both an arts administrator and an artist give her a unique perspective. We believe she will be a terrific leader for LAL as it continues to grow and explore new challenges.”
In her role as development director, Pevec has redesigned LAL’s development plan, secured funding from new grant sources to support LAL’s community engagement programs, deepened relationships with corporate and community partners, and maintained LAL’s financial strength despite an economic downturn particularly hard on the arts.
“I am delighted to accept LAL’s executive director position and honored to continue its legacy as an innovative, engaging and culturally significant organization in Kentucky,” Pevec said. “This is an exciting time for the visual arts in Lexington, and I look forward to lending my leadership during this critical point in our city’s development.”
Prior to joining LAL, Pevec served as Education and Exhibitions Director and Youthreach Coordinator for the Wayne Center for the Arts in Ohio. Through these positions, she scheduled and curated exhibitions, built community partnerships with artist guilds, individual artists, local schools and social service organizations, and developed and implemented community engagement programs.
In addition to being a professional arts advocate, Pevec recently worked with the UK Art Museum to curate The British Are Coming, an exhibition featuring British contemporary paintings from private collections. She is also a classically trained dancer and dance instructor. In June she debuted her own dance company, the Contemporary Dance Collective, with a performance that featured the work of artist and Transylvania Professor Kurt Gohde and poet Bianca Spriggs.
Allison Kaiser, who joined LAL as executive director in 2003, finished her tenure with the organization in June to accept a position with the Lexington Philharmonic. Pevec, who shares Kaiser’s passion for the arts as a whole, fully intends to build upon the innovative and inspiring work of Kaiser.
“Stephanie’s excitement and enthusiasm for LAL and the Lexington arts community are made evident through her actions and her ambitions,” said Anderson. “She believes in the Lexington Art League and its mission and will be a strong and effective leader as we move forward.”
