Fit and Fabulous: Paul Chartier

By Amanda Harper Posted: March 2nd, 2010

Twice during the week and on Saturdays, Paul Chartier gets up to run at 5:30 AM with the Chevy Chase runners. While this is completed before many people are even awake, Paul knows that this really gets his day started right.  He says that knowing there are 30 other people getting up, tying on their shoes and running along with him keeps him motivated and inspired to achieve great things.  The Community Relations Manager for Fifth Third Bank, Paul’s favorite fitness accomplishments include finishing a marathon, participating in the first Bourbon Chase in Kentucky and being fit enough to enjoy running with his nineteen year-old son.
Healthy eating is a huge part of Paul’s life. He tends to eat a solid breakfast, oatmeal as a mid-morning snack, a healthy lunch and then enjoys pasta, chicken or fish for dinner.  “I try to stay away from fried food. I know it tastes great but I know how much effort it takes to get rid of it,” Paul explained.  “I will take a taste of a doughnut, pie and ice cream, but the 20th bite tastes the same as the first, so why keep going knowing all the effort needed to shed those calories and fat?”
Paul suggests going to the doctor for a physical, and says that diets and short term goals often go by the wayside too easily. Instead, Paul recommends finding an enjoyable activity.
